From the top of its towering keep, Mauvezin Castle dominates the trade route that connects Bayonne and Toulouse. The inner courtyard in which catapults and other war machines replicas are exposed is a prime example of its fine medieval military architecture.
Our tour guides dressed in full medieval attire bring the visitors along on a journey through the Middle Ages as they share the history of the castle through its various sieges, wars and political intrigues.
As you visit the keep’s many levels, exhibitions and museum, you will learn about everyday life during that tumultuous period in history.
We hold daily thematic workshops during the year for school students (the visit of the castle is followed by educational workshops: heraldry, coins, measurement units, and archaeology)
In summer, the castle comes to life every Sunday and bank holiday, with jugglers, medieval songs & dances, theatre performances, and much more!
Our souvenir shop is also the perfect place to find original gifts, as well as historical and artistic literature.
Mauvezin Castle is a property of the Escòla Gaston Febus association.
